It queries RDAP - the modern, structured successor to the classic WHOIS protocol - with a WHOIS fallback, so you get clean, consistent data.
Because we run email deliverability for a living, this lookup also flags the things that affect sending: a brand-new domain that mailbox providers will throttle, a registration about to expire, and the transfer/update locks that protect a domain from hijacking.

What is a WHOIS lookup?

Why can't I see the domain owner's name and email?
Registrant contact details are redacted at source by registries and registrars under privacy rules such as GDPR and the ICANN Temporary Specification. Most WHOIS and RDAP responses no longer contain them. This tool returns registration metadata only and never displays personal owner data.
What do status codes like clientTransferProhibited mean?
Status (EPP) codes describe locks and states on a domain. clientTransferProhibited, for example, stops the domain being transferred to another registrar without being unlocked first - useful anti-hijack protection. Server-level codes are set by the registry; client-level codes by the registrar.
Why does domain age matter for email?
Mailbox providers throttle brand-new sending domains because spammers register throwaway domains in bulk. A domain only days old should be warmed up gradually with low volume. Established domains build sender reputation faster and read as more legitimate.
What is the difference between WHOIS and RDAP?
WHOIS is the original text-based protocol for domain registration data; RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is its structured JSON successor with consistent fields and standardized redaction. This tool prefers RDAP and falls back to WHOIS when RDAP is not available for a TLD.
